This report addresses several aspects of solar energy leases from a policy perspective. Attention is placed on lease terms and terminology, potential site selection, lease phases, land use, site decommissioning, as well as the economic considers of crop removal/termination. Throughout the report, aspects pertaining to solar leasing are discussed from the viewpoint of both the landowner and the ag operator. While not a comprehensive report or a legal template for constructing a lease, this resource can provide landowners and ag operators with some of the more general consideration points when and/or if they are approached by a solar energy company.
