(01/24/25) BATON ROUGE, La. — On Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, the 90th Southeast District Livestock show will take place in Covington. In keeping with tradition, a king and queen have been selected from the region to reign over the show. This year, Eliza Foster from Hammond and Hudson Galloway from Slidell have been selected as the royalty of the event.
The Southeast District king and queen serve as ambassadors for the livestock show. They each receive a $500 scholarship and a belt buckle. The king and queen are selected based on their individual achievements in livestock activities, community engagement, 4-H and FFA leadership and other accomplishments.
Foster is a senior at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and has been showing livestock since 6th grade, following in the footsteps of her parents. Foster shows beef cattle and has competed in livestock shows across the country.
She is excited to take on the responsibility of being queen so she can motivate younger 4-H members to both get involved with livestock and take on leadership roles.
“The position of queen makes me able to inspire others and show young members that come into the livestock industry what it means for hard work,” Foster said.
After high school, Foster plans on studying agriculture business and later working toward a law degree in corporate law.
Galloway is a senior at Northshore High School and first showed livestock in 2022. While he is not from an agricultural background, his involvement with FFA and agriculture classes in high school sparked his interest in the competitions. This show means a lot to Galloway because of its significance in his showing career.
“The Southeast Livestock show is one of the most impactful livestock shows that I participated in personally. In the last show, I won my first belt buckle,” Galloway said.
For the past two years, Galloway has been showing a Southdown lamb, but he also has experience showing a Nubian doe goat.
Both Foster and Galloway are excited to reign over the show and are grateful for the experiences offered to them through 4-H and the LSU AgCenter.
“4-H has taught me a lot, and I would not be where I am without it,” Foster said.
