Acadiana Open Horse Show
Join us for our third annual Acadiana Open Horse Show on July 13, 2025, at the Acadia Parish Rice Arena (159 Cherokee Drive Crowley, LA 70526). Registration opens through 4HOnline (https://v2.4honline.com/) on April 1, 2025, and closes on July 1, 2025. This event is open to all 4-H members across the state. There will be two divisions: 13 and under and 14 and older. Events will cost $16 each and include breakaway roping, tie down calf roping, boys goat tying, girls goat tying, barrel racing, flag race, stake race and pole bending. The top 5 winners from each event will be awarded. Check in is at 9 am and the show will start at 10 am. You MUST pre-register in order to attend this event. No day of registrations will be accepted. Achievement Day
We are excited about the 2025 Achievement Day and cannot wait to see everyone at Midland High on May 5, 2025! All youth attending will get the opportunity to take part in the fun and educational activities throughout the day! For more details contact your school club leader. We cannot wait to see you there!
Don’t forget that we are collecting can pop tops for our Achievement Day Service Project! All clubs will turn in the pop top donations at Achievement Day. All proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald House in Memphis, Tennessee. Many children and their families from St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital use this location.
Horse Clinic
This month’s clinic will be held at the Acadia Parish Rice Arena on April 28th from 6-8 PM. In order to attend youth must be an approved 4-H member AND bring your own horse. For more information or questions, please call Emma Zaunbrecher Tyler at 337-366-2109.
LOST Camp
LOST Camp is back and being held July 31- August 3, 2025! Registration for LOST Camp will open in the 4-H Online system on April 14, 2025. The deadline to register for camp is July 12, 2025. THERE WILL BE NO LATE REGISTRATIONS ALLOWED. Cost to attend is $200 this year including a t-shirt.LOST Camp is open to all active Louisiana 4-H members who will be completing grades 7 and 8. These spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis. Contact the 4-H Office to register. Youth will be able to participate in one of these track options: Food and Fitness, Artificial Intelligence, ATV, Outdoor Adventures, Wetlands-Explore Louisiana Wetlands, and SeaPerch. Campers will also have recreational time to play various sports, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and line dancing. Other choices include team-building activities, performing arts, visiting with friends, and shopping for souvenirs in the Camp Store. Evening programs include skits, a talent show and Vespers.
Sewing with Cotton Contest
This contest is open to all 4-H members with skill levels from beginners to advanced sewers! Participants will construct a cotton apron, showcasing their sewing skills and creativity. The apron is to be sewed/ constructed by the participant and turned in for judging. Aprons will be judged on design, workmanship, and originality. Participants will be judged in the following divisions- Grades 4-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12. Contest Rules:
Aprons
- Fabric: 100% cotton fabric must be used for the apron.
- Thread: Any color or type of thread is allowed.
- Notions: Participants can use any additional notions (buttons, zippers, trims) as desired.
Apron Specifications
- Size: The apron must fit the youth making the apron.
- Design: Must include
- At least one pocket
- Ties at the waist
- Creativity: Participants are encouraged to personalize their aprons with unique designs or embellishments.
Submission Guidelines
- Completed aprons must be submitted with the filled out datasheet by the deadline April 11, 2025. Datasheets can be found on our website (www.lsuagcenter.com/acadia4h) or pick up a copy from the 4-H Office
- Participants must include a brief description of their design process and inspiration (max 150 words).
- Aprons should be clean and free from any visible marks or stains.
Judging Criteria
- Craftsmanship (40 points): Quality of stitching, finishing, and overall construction.
- Design (30 points): Creativity, originality, and aesthetic appeal.
- Functionality (20 points): Practicality and usability of the apron.
- Presentation (10 points): Overall presentation and attention to detail.
Additional Information
- Contestants may seek advice from fellow participants or instructors, but all work must be their own.
- An in-person showcase will be held for participants to present their aprons and discuss their creative processes at Achievement Day on May 5, 2025, at Midland High School.
