Xi Sigma Pi is a national forestry honor society. All RNR students with an interest in forestry who meet the minimum GPA requirements (3.0 for undergraduates or 3.5 for graduate students) are eligible for membership. The officers of Chapter Nu of Xi Sigma Pi are Daniel DeButts, forester; Jacob Manuel, ranger; Maruf Hossain, secretary-fiscal agent; and Dr. Quang Cao serving as faculty adviser.

Anna Sanchez received the 2024 Xi Sigma Pi Outstanding Sophomore Award, which is presented to an RNR junior specializing in wildlife habitat or forest management.

The annual Apple Pie Seminar series featured two distinguished speakers in 2024. On March 20, Dr. Andre Rovai from LSU Oceanography and Coastal Sciences delivered a talk on “Global Patterns in Mangrove Forest Structure and Blue Carbon Stocks.” A second seminar was held on Nov. 19 featuring Dr. John Tracy of the School of RNR, who discussed “Challenges to Managing Bottomland and Floodplain Forests of South Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle.”
