Botany Club Explores Abita Creek Swamp

D. Rutherford, Laborde, Luke, King, Sammy L

A group of six people stands in a dense, muddy forest area with tall trees and scattered underbrush. From left to right: a person in a light blue shirt and olive pants holds a large water bottle and wears a cap; next to them, a person with long hair in a pinkish shirt and brown pants smiles brightly; the person in the center wears a bright red T-shirt and gray shorts; to their right is a person in overalls and a gray T-shirt, with a water bottle clipped to their belt; next is someone in a plaid shirt, tan pants, and a wide-brimmed hat with hands on hips; finally, a person in a black tank top, beige cargo pants, and red cap stands with one hand on a tree. The background is full of trees and green foliage, and the ground appears wet and muddy.

Botany Club members explore a pond cypress and black gum swamp along Abita Creek near Abita Springs. The Botany Club at LSU exists to enhance students’ plant identification skills and to introduce students to an expanded selection of habitats.
