This year, we are Thinking Green with Ascension 4-H! We will be focused on environmental awareness and education while also learning how to be financially savvy! Enrollment for the 2025-2026 club year is just beginning, so Join In! Whether you are looking for new friends, traveling, projects, community service, career prep, or more, 4-H is the place for you!
4-H is the largest youth development organization in the nation. Engaging, enabling, and empowering over 6 million youth every day. Here, in Ascension 4-H, we average 1,500 members annually. We hope to offer many opportunities to ALL 4-H members in areas like leadership, teamwork, community involvement, service, responsibility, and more! Members will work on their personal development by using their Heads, Hands, and Hearts to “Make the Best, Better!”
4-H is getting kicked off this month! School club leaders are going to be disseminating 4-H information to interested members at school. We will continue to use the 4-H Online Enrollment System. State and Parish fees will be collected in the 4-H Online System! If your school has not already given out 4-H information, contact the 4-H office to find out who is the club leader at your school and if your school has a 4-H program! Read on to find out how to sign up. If your school doesn’t have a school club, you can join 4-H as a Member at Large. Fill out your online enrollment TODAY to join!! Enrolled Ascension 4-H members are eligible to participate in the 4-H BINGO contest! The first 10 students to receive BINGO by December 15 will receive a prize. Cards will be handed out at club meetings, can be picked up at our office, or you can email Ms. Cheyenne or Mr. Brooks to receive the digital version for download. National 4-H Week
National 4-H Week will take place October 5-11. Join in the fun by helping to spread 4-H awareness and encouraging your friends to join! 4-H provides opportunities for community development, friendships, citizenship, and developing leaders! We challenge each 4-H member to take advantage of the opportunities in their community by participating in 1-2 hours of service during 4-H week. Please share service stories with us- email a brief description and pictures to cmoran@agcenter.lsu.edu. Check social media for daily trivia, videos, stories, and challenges throughout the week!
Clubs can participate in the 4-H Week Display Contest! Decorate a shadow box, hallway, bulletin board, school entrance, office, or whatever space school administration will allow you to! Registration is open until October 1. Email Ms. Cheyenne (cmoran@agcenter.lsu.edu) or Mr. Brooks (Brooksrichardson@agcenter.lsu.edu) to register. Registered participants will receive communication from the 4-H office as to exactly when judging will take place. THREE winners will be selected!
Help your club to WIN by participating in different events! We will have two AWARDS that will continue this year! These clubs will be recognized at Achievement Day and will receive a party at the end of this school year!

Louisiana 4-H is excited to announce the inaugural Spark ▪ Action ▪ Change |Summit, an immersive 3-day event designed to engage and inspire 7th and 8th grade 4-H youth with a keen interest in government relations, volunteering/service, and personal development. This summit aims to provide a dynamic and interactive learning environment where participants can deepen their understanding of civic engagement, refine their leadership skills, and develop a strong sense of social responsibility. Through a series of hands-on educational workshops, engagement tours, and collaborative service projects, youth will have the opportunity to explore critical aspects of civic education, public service, and personal growth. The event will take place February 19-20, 2026, at the Lod Cook Conference Center, LSU Baton Rouge. Cost: $125 per participant. Registration on 4-H Online will be open with a 2-per parish limit. College & Career Expo! – 7th – 12th Grades

Our Ascension Shooting Sports program is excited to get kicked off for the upcoming 2024-2025 Season! Our New Member Informational meeting will be held at 6 pm at the Gonzales VFW Hall on September 24th, 2025. This is a mandatory meeting to join due to the club’s quickly approaching kick-off deadlines and scheduled training(s), if your family is interested, please make every effort to attend. The Home & Style Club will include cooking and sewing this year! Each month a cooking project will be completed in coordination with the cookery contests. The club is open to all Ascension 4-H’ers and its membership fee is $10.00 to join. This helps us to pay for supplies used for project materials. The informational meeting will be held on Thursday, September 18, at 6 pm at the 4-H Office. Scan the QR code to register for the Home & Style project club.
Wiggles & Wags is a project club that focuses on everything DOG! It helps members learn more about caring for, training, and working with their beloved canines all while doing service and growing in leadership. The Wiggles & Wags project club is open to all Ascension 4-H members. The membership fee is $10.00 to join for the year. The first meeting will be at 6 pm, Tuesday, September 23 at the 4-H Office. The Ascension 4-H Jr. Leader Project Club is open to all 7th-12th grade Ascension 4-H members. Jr. Leaders focus on leadership, citizenship, and teamwork. The service-learning theme will be chosen by the members at the 1st meeting. The cost to join the Jr. Leader Club is $10.00. We are super excited to get our cookery contest kicked off again this year on October 20th and we have some awesome new updates to these contests!! For each of your monthly contest entries, you will have the option of earning extra points for pictures submitted highlighting the before (ingredients), during (action shots), and after (finished product) you have completed your dish. You can also earn extra points for writing a short summary of your experience of cooking the dish. You will need to submit your recipe and 1-2 servings of your completed dish to the 4-H office on the contest date from 8 am to 5:30 pm. Pictures and summaries can be emailed to Mr. Brooks in the format described in the contest guidelines. From there, your entries will be judged by our volunteers. The first monthly contest will be egg cookery. More detailed guidelines and explanations will be available soon on our website at www.lsuagcenter.com/ascension4-H in the contest section!
Are you up for the Challenge of making new friends, working as a team, growing as a leader, and accomplishing a goal? If so, you may enjoy the Southeast Regional Challenge Camp for 7th & 8th Grade members. Challenge Camp one night at Lion King Retreat Center from November 11-12th.Registration is through 4-H Online and the deadline is October 21st.There is a $60 fee that includes a shirt, transportation, meals, and all activities. At camp this year, there will be a costume contest (bring your best sailor and best pirate attire) and a talent show!
Limited spots are available on a first-some-first-serve basis. Priority is given to 7th graders.
Looking for a way to make a difference? Become a 4-H Volunteer! Volunteers are the heart of the Ascension Parish 4-H program. There are many roles and positions that provide important functions to help make 4-H programming successful on the school and parish levels. Individuals can volunteer to serve project leaders, provide transportation to 4-H events, assist with the parish or school 4-H programs, help with event setup/take down, clerical work, contest judges, and more. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please call the 4-H office. As a volunteer, you are supported by the insurance carried by LSU AgCenter for AgCenter events. You can enroll as a volunteer through the 4-H Online system mentioned previously in the newsletter.
ALL Ascension 7th-12th grade students from ANY school in the parish are welcome to join us at the Ascension 4-H office on September 9th at 6 pm to get the scoop on this year’s Junior Leader Club. We will discuss our plan for our service-learning initiative this year. We will also go ahead and vote for the 2025-2026 Junior Leader Officers. Ms. Cheyenne Moran is a lifelong
4-H member from Ascension Parish. Growing up, she exhibited swine at the
parish, state, and national level as an at-large 4-H member. She is a
Mississippi State University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in animal and
dairy science. During her time at MSU, she continued her passion for livestock
by competing on the livestock judging team. Cheyenne is excited to return to
her hometown and continue the long-standing tradition of 4-H and livestock
exhibition in Ascension Parish! Ms. Cheyenne oversees the Ascension
4-H livestock program. Additionally, she works alongside Mr. Brooks to
facilitate our school clubs, Junior Leaders, and our Parish-wide events. She

Mr. Brooks
Mr. Brooks Richardson is a recent graduate of LSU with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural and Extension Education and
Evaluation, with a concentration in Agricultural Leadership. He worked at LSU
in the 4-H state office as a student worker, where he attended many camps and
educational outreach events and developed a passion for 4-H programming and the
youth of Louisiana. Mr. Brooks oversees the Ascension 4-H Shooting Sports

SUMMER SPECTACULAR
ASCENSION 4-H EDITION
Healthy Competition & Loads of Summer Fun
Ascension had 2 contestants who qualified to attend the National Shooting Sports Competition in Grand Island, Nebraska. Our team has brought home the title of National Champions for the 3rd consecutive year. Ascension shooting sports members, Dominic DeBenedetto and Jaci Daigle, competed in the muzzleloading and smallbore rifle disciplines, respectively. The Ascension BB team, consisting of 7 members and a coach, placed 1st in the state and qualified for the Daisy National BB Competition in Arkansas. The team finished 42nd out of 59 teams to end the season.
4-H UNIVERSITY
19 students in 8th -12th grade participated in the 2025 4-H University on LSU’s campus. Ascension had 9 students selected for state leadership boards and 12 participants placed in their respective contests! Our 1st place winner will be attending an educational awards trip. We are so PROUD!
Ascension took 52 female campers and 35 male campers from grades 4th through 6th to Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. Along with 9 adult volunteers, 7 junior counselors, and 2 agents. Campers participated in fun, educational tracks such as Outdoor Adventure, Water Safety, Gardening, and more! Camp offers an opportunity for students to learn and grow in an electronic free environment. It fosters independence and social skills in attendees. The boys and girls cabins were very competitive in the cleanest cabin award, never ranking below 2nd place.
HORSE SHOWS
Ascension had 5 youth participants in the Louisiana 4-H and FFA summer horse shows. Many of the participants did very well at the Southeast District Horse Show, qualifying to compete at the LSU AgCenter State Horse ShowonJuly7-11th in DeRidder, LA. Congratulations to all of our equine exhibitors on a successful year!
4-H offers middle school students the opportunity to have fun with science by attending the annual 4-H LOST (Louisiana Outdoor Science and Technology) Camp. Campers enjoy interactive recreational activities such as swimming, canoeing/kayaking, archery, volleyball, dancing, arts and crafts, and much more. While at 4-H LOST Camp, campers select 3 educational tracks in which they participate in fun activities each morning that are focused on that area. The tracks include videography, wetlands, outdoor adventures, SET (science, engineering, and technology), and more! Ascension 4-H had 1 participant attend LOST camp this summer.
While this summer has been a blast, we cannot wait to begin the upcoming school year. Our programs success would not be possible without the hard work of all of our club leaders, volunteers, and principals. Thank you for supporting the youth of Ascension! We look forward to seeing y’all soon!
