Demo Day

The Ascension 4-H Demo Day is coming up on Friday, FEBRUARY 6th, and it’s never too early to begin planning! The holidays make a great time to work on your Demo Day submissions! There will also be activity stations for our 4-H members to participate in while judging and contests take place. The Demo Day event details, registration link, and rules for each contest are posted in the Demo Day Contest tab at www.lsuagcenter.com/ascension4h

Here are the lists of contests offered:

  • Public Speaking (Senior-level winners may be eligible for a 4-H University Scholarship)
  • Interview Preparation (Senior-level winners may be eligible for a 4-H University Scholarship)
  • Dress Review Garment Judging
  • Ready to Wear Garment Judging and Contest
  • General & Food Demonstrations
  • LifeBook Cover Design Competition
  • Exhibits- No pre-registration required. (can be turned into the 4-H office prior to Demo Day)

Exhibit Categories are as follows:

  • Arts & Crafts (Accessories, Jewelry, Paper, Plastic, wood, other)
  • Photography (5x7 framed prints; Animals, Nature, People)
  • Recycled Art (Create art using used items only)
  • Beef Poster Or Dairy Poster– top posters sent to state competition, or
  • 4-H Themed Poster
  • Sewing (Non-Wearable Only)
  • Project Exhibit– Educational display board about your 4-H project area.
  • Decorated Wreath

Clothing Contests- Held at Demo Day!

Sew with Cotton, Dress Revue and Ready to Wear will be happening on Friday, February 6th, 10:00am at Demo Day. Get those final stitches done on your apron, skirt, or jumper and be ready to show off your creation! Entry forms and rules are available to all 4-H members on the website.


Sweet Potato & Pecan Fundraiser – Thank You!

Thanks for your support of the 11th Annual Ascension 4-H Foundation Sweet Potato and Pecan Fundraiser!! It was a success! With your help, we have sold 25,980lbs. of sweet potatoes and 3,240 lbs. of pecan halves!! Our program would not be able to operate without the support of our members and the public who purchase these Louisiana grown products year after year! The money raised will help to support 4-H programming, end-of-the-year awards, and scholarships for camps & graduating seniors. Congratulations to Maverick Clements on being our top seller for this year! The Top Selling club this year is Prairieville Primary! Thank You!


Cookery Contest- December Sugar

Be mindful all contests have had adjustments made so read the guidelines carefully! For each of our monthly contest entries, you will need to submit 2 copies of your PRINTED recipe and 1-2 servings of your dish in a SMALL disposable container. The drop off day for completed dishes are from 8 am to 5:30pm on December 8th. From there, your entries will be judged by our volunteers. More detailed guidelines and explanations will be available soon on our website at lsuagcenter.com/ascension4-H!

Livestock News

The Ascension Parish Livestock Show will be held at Lamar Dixon on January 16-17th! All livestock animals will arrive by 5pm Friday night, and we will kick off the show with our Annual Stick Horse Rodeo! All youth 11 and younger are encouraged to participate in the stick horse rodeo events, ranging from bucking stick horses to barrel racing and more! At $5.00 per event, registration for the stick horse events will kick off at 6 pm in Barn 8 at Lamar Dixon. There is no charge to watch! The livestock show will begin at 8 am on Saturday morning. Come and stop by!


Spark | Action | Change Summit- 7th-8th Graders

Louisiana 4-H is excited to announce the inaugural Spark ▪ Action ▪ Change |Summit, an immersive 3-day event designed to engage and inspire 7th and 8th grade 4-H youth with a keen interest in government relations, volunteering/service, and personal development. This summit aims to provide a dynamic and interactive learning environment where participants can deepen their understanding of civic engagement, refine their leadership skills, and develop a strong sense of social responsibility. Through a series of hands-on educational workshops, engagement tours, and collaborative service projects, youth will have the opportunity to explore critical aspects of civic education, public service, and personal growth. The event will take place February 19-20, 2026, at the Lod Cook Conference Center, LSU Baton Rouge.


4-H Night with the Pelicans

Enjoy a fun filled night with the New Orleans Pelicans and 4-H on January 30th! The Pelicans will be playing Memphis Grizzlies and tip off will be at 6:30 pm. All tickets for this 4-H game need to be purchased by January 2nd. Tickets and parking passes can be purchased on an individual basis or as a group order. What’s Included with each ticket purchase:

  • Pelican promotion item on the night of the game is TBA
  • Pelicans T-shirt – Given out at the Pregame Tailgate Party 3:30 pm - 4:30pm and at the Group Sales Center outside of section 108 from 6:00 PM until half time. Sizes based on availability.
  • Pelicans Bucket Hat – Given out to the first 800 participants in the Tailgate Party.
  • A portion of the ticket sale proceeds will benefit the 4-H Foundation.

Food & Fitness Day Camp

The Louisiana State Food and Fitness Board invites you to the 2025 Food & Fitness Day Camp! A day full of cooking, games, mindfulness, and more! This day camp is Tuesday, January 13th, 10:00am – 3:00 pm at the 4-H Mini Barn on LSU campus. It is open for all 4th -6th graders. The camp costs $35 and includes lunch! If interested, please register through 4-H online by January 5th, 2026.


Jr. Leader Project Club- 7th - 12th Grades

The Ascension 4-H Jr. Leader Project Club is open to all 7th-12th grade Ascension 4-H members. Jr. Leaders focus on leadership, citizenship, and teamwork. The service-learning theme chosen by the members will be related to animals. The cost to join the Jr. Leader Club is $10.00. To Sign up for Jr. Leaders scan the QR code. Graduating Seniors- Honor Cords

Don’t forget to apply for your 4-H Honor Cords to wear at your high school graduation! You have worked hard during your 4-H career so wear your honor cord PROUDLY! Guidelines and applications are available and must be submitted online at Senior Honor Cords (lsuagcenter.com). It takes less than 5 minutes to complete! Applications are due by February 13th! The honor cords will be delivered to the Ascension Extension Office and distributed during Achievement Day. More info can be found on our website under awards/applications.
