On April 28, 2026, come join us at the State Capitol for 4-H Day at the Capitol! Seeing our Capitol and the legislative process is so important! Come join in to meet our local legislatures and watch them in action! Limited youth and adult spots are available on a first-come basis. This event costs $20 for youth and $10 for adults. If you may be interested in participating in the Summer 4-H Horse Shows, please contact the office ASAP! Events such as roping, barrel racing, pole bending, ranch riding, western pleasure, hunter under saddle, and much more are offered at the summer shows. April 1st is the possession deadline. A copy of the horse’s registration papers, or a grade horse certificate must be uploaded in 4-H Online by April 1st.
Ready to take your leadership and 4-H experience to the next level? You may want to consider applying for a LA State 4-H Leadership Board! Members currently in 8th-11th grade may be eligible to apply. Leadership Boards are offered in the areas of Science, Engineering, & Technology (SET), Food & Fitness, Fashion, Wetlands Ambassador Team (WAT), Shooting Sports Ambassadors, Livestock Ambassadors, Equine Ambassadors, and Executive Board. If interested, contact the 4-H Office. Deadline to apply is May 1st in 4-H Online. Interviews will be held on Friday, May 29th in Alexandria.
Join the Ascension “Krewe de 4-H U!” at 4-H University! 4-H members choose from over 30 competitive events ranging from Agricultural Use Demonstrations, Fishing Sports, Esports, Fashion Revue, Graphic Design, robotics, and more! Through competing, youth excel in life skills such as personal growth, teamwork, decision-making, problem-solving, resiliency, and many more. This year’s 4-H University event will take place on the LSU Campus on June 23-25. There will be a MANDATORY INFORMATIONAL MEETING on Tuesday, March 17th, at 6pm at the 4-H Office!!! Ascension is “Beyond Ready for 4-H Camp” at Camp Grant Walker, July 6th-9th! Summer Camp is open to youth in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Ascension 4-H will publish an online lottery form for camp sign-up on MARCH 15th! Please be sure to complete the digital form as soon as possible to get your child a spot for this year’s camp adventure! A $50.00 non-refundable deposit will be collected once campers are selected to hold your child’s summer camp spot. We are also in need of adult volunteers to chaperone camp. If you're an adult interested in volunteering, please contact our office for more information!
LOST (Louisiana Outdoor Science and Technology) Camp will be held at Camp Grant Walker this summer on July 30th through August 2nd. This educational camp is a 4-day, 3-night adventure for 7th-8th graders. Campers enjoy interactive recreational activities such as swimming, canoeing/kayaking, archery, volleyball, dancing, arts and crafts, and much more. While at 4-H LOST Camp, campers select 3 educational tracks in which they participate in fun activities each morning that are focused on that area. The tracks include videography, wetlands, outdoor adventures, SET (science, engineering, and technology), and more! In the evening, campers enjoy free time, which includes hanging out with new friends at the dance, movies, swimming pool, or arts and crafts building. The baseline cost of camp is $250. Registration will close on July 15th. All 7th and 8th grade 4-H members who are interested, please contact the office.
Gardens entered in the contest must be in Ascension and contain at least 4 types of vegetables. Judges will look for plant health, weeds, records, and more! The garden contest judging will take place in May. All participants will be notified of the exact time and date. More info can be found on our website under Contests > Other Contests > Youth Vegetable Garden Contest. To register for the contest, please call the office or email MLaiche@agcenter.lsu.edu the participant’s name, garden address and phone number by April 30th.
The Parish, District, and State Livestock Shows have now passed. The Ascension Livestock Show Team did an amazing job representing Ascension during each of these events! We would like to congratulate all our winners and let ALL our livestock show exhibitors know how PROUD we are of them.

The completion of livestock shows marks the beginning of our local shooting sports competitions. These include the Ascension Invitational and our state-qualifying Southern Regional. Our members will get to experience their hard work, dedication, and training come to fruition. They will find areas that need additional work and gain confidence to continue competing.
