Private Pesticide Applicator Certification: Exam and Training Options

If you wish to obtain your Private Pesticide Applicator card for the first time, or if your card has expired due to missing a recertification meeting, please follow the steps below.

Taking the Exam Through LDAF

If you would like to take the exam through the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF), you have two options:

  1. Take the exam in person at the LDAF headquarters in Baton Rouge.
  2. Take the exam online at a scheduled time through a third-party proctoring company.

Before scheduling your exam, you must complete the required application form found here.

  • There is a $50 exam fee payable to LDAF.
  • Select “Initial Testing” and “Private Pesticide Applicator” on the form.
  • You may choose either online testing or in-person testing in Baton Rouge. Details for online testing are provided on page 3 of the application packet.
  • Mail the completed form and payment to the address listed on page 2. Be sure to keep copies of all documents and payment records.
  • Study materials for the general exam can be purchased here. You may also check with your local Extension office to see if manuals are available to rent.
