EBR Master Gardeners present Fall Vegetables in Raised Beds and Cool-Season Flowers

(08/14/26) BATON ROUGE, La. — Those old, tired vegetable plants and flowers have made it through the hot months and now is the time to replace them.

With this in mind, East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners will be at the Zachary Branch Library at 1900 Church St. in Zachary on Thursday, Sept. 10 with programs on Fall Vegetables in Raised Beds and Cool-Season Flowers.

Advanced Master Gardener David Breaux will show how to prepare raised beds and will even help attendees select the vegetables that should provide the most produce.

Breaux has grown vegetables in his backyard for years and helps keep the kitchen garden at the Burden Rural Life Museum ready for harvest. He will discuss which ones to start from seed and which he has had the most success with.

The second presenter is Master Gardener apprentice Bridget Kaigler. She is a recent graduate of the Master Gardener program and has gained a lot of practical knowledge about gardening and a deeper appreciation for how things grow in their own time.

In this presentation, Kaigler will focus on cool-season annuals — ones that will complete their life cycle in one season and thrive in cooler temperatures. She will discuss what to plant, when to plant it and how to maintain it. Attendees will leave with practical tips and the confidence to grow and enjoy these seasonal favorites.

The presentations begin at 6:30 p.m. They are free and open to the public.
