Canning and Conserving One’s Harvested Bounty

Canning fruits and vegetables is a great way to enjoy the fruits of your labor long after harvest ends. The process of canning, if done correctly, can extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. The equipment needed can easily be found at your local store or ordered online.

Materials needed:

  • Large metal pot
  • Glass mason jars
  • Lids (flat lid and a screw top)
  • Fruit or vegetables
  • Other items, as needed

You’ll need a large metal pot used to boil water. This pot needs to be tall enough to so jars can be completely submerged. Mason jars can be various heights and sizes, but they will need to be completely submerged in the boiling water. Usually lids are metal, containing 2 parts, a flat lid that sits flush with the outer rim of the mason jar and a separate screw top lid.QR code for canning resources.
