Hand signals used in agriculture

Hand signals continued.

Most farmers use hand signals when trying to communicate with machinery operators or helpers. These work fine, if everyone understands the signals. To keep everybody’s signal straight, the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has published a uniform set of hand signals for farm machinery operators. Use them and teach others to use them. They can save time and prevent mistakes whenever noise or distance prevents verbal communication.

These hand signals are in general agreement with the U.S. Army’s standard arm and hand signals, and many of them are used in construction and other industries. Learning this new language will give you an easy and effective way to communicate when working around agricultural machinery.
