Horse Show Information

The 4-H Horse project is an opportunity for youth to showcase their horsemanship skills learned through their hard work. The horse project also provides young people opportunities to participate in a series of activities designed to improve citizenship, sportsmanship, horsemanship, character, competitive spirit, discipline, and responsibility. The summer horse shows are the culminating events for the project.

At the summer horse shows, events such as quiz bowl, premier exhibitor, speeches, roping, barrel racing, pole bending, ranch riding, western pleasure, hunter under saddle, and much more are offered at the summer horse shows. April 1st is the possession deadline. A copy of the horse’s registration papers, or a grade horse certificate must be submitted to the office by April 1st.

The following is a list of horses that are eligible to show:

  • A registered horse in the exhibitor's name or the name of an immediate family member (father, mother, siblings, grandparent, legal guardian)
  • Grade or non-registered horse
  • They can lease a horse from someone and complete the Lease Horse Affidavit and turn in with their entry information

2026 Horse Show Dates & Deadlines

April 1- Possession Deadline; Registration Papers, Lease Affidavit, hardship form, and/or grade horse certificate due to the Ascension Office

Entry Deadline- May 15th, 2026

District Horse Show- June 16-17, 2026, Florida Parishes Arena, Amite, LA

State Horse Show (must qualify)- TBA

Southern Regional (must qualify)- TBA, Perry, GA
