Livingston Master Gardener

Information about the Livingston Master Gardener Program and upcoming classes

Livingston Parish has an active Master Gardener Association that is involved with community gardens, educational workshops, school gardens, library talks, demonstration gardens, and community beautification projects to name a few. Master Gardeners come from all walks of life but share a common interest in garden and giving back to their local community.

The Louisiana Master Gardener program was developed to provide individuals knowledge to be successful in their own gardens and landscapes and provide opportunities for them to volunteer to give back to their community. Volunteers attend training classes that teach on topics ranging from botany, plant propagation, soil health, disease and insect management, vegetable gardening, home fruit production, lawn care, and more. In exchange for their training, people who become Master Gardeners contribute time as volunteers, working through their local Master Gardener Program Coordinator to provide horticulture-related information to their communities.

Master Gardeners help to fulfill the mission of the LSU AgCenter Cooperative Extension Service, to educate people, engaging them in learning to use unbiased, research-based horticulture and gardening practices through a network of trained volunteers directed and supported by land-grant university faculty and staff.

Are you a gardening enthusiast or would you like to be? Whether you are an experienced gardener or brand new to the world of gardening, the Louisiana Master Gardener program is here to help you learn and refine your skills.

Livingston will hold a new Master Gardener course beginning Wednesday, August 5th. Classes will meet weekly from 9 AM to noon through Wednesday, November 11th. Course registration is $190, which covers cost of the training materials and supplies. More information about class and how to register can be found here.
