Summer Employment for Students
The H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station is accepting applications from high school and college students for summer employment. Students hired will work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, throughout the summer months. All applicants must be at least 16 years old.
Depending on the project assigned, student duties may include:
- Fieldwork: hand-harvesting rice, installing drainage pipes and stakes, digging ditches, pulling weeds, collecting insect core samples, taking data in flooded rice fields, and operating vehicles and/or ATVS.
- Greenhouse: mixing potting soil, filling pots, cleaning algae from floors
- Laboratory: counting seeds or insects, preparing sample envelopes, cleaning lab supplies, taking measurements, and operating lab equipment
- General maintenance: mowing, weed-eating, power-washing, painting, and assisting with vehicle or tractor repairs.
Depending on station and project needs, there may be some opportunity for students to work during the school year. Students can work up to 20 hours per week while school is in session.

Applicants selected for a summer position will be contacted before the end of April 2026.
