The federal minimum wage has not changed since 2009 remaining at $7.25 per hour. However, over the years states and localities have decided on their own minimum wages. The maps below report on yearly changes and document changes in the wage rate as of March 1, 2024.
1) Five States with no minimum wage, adopting the federal wage rate: Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
2) The period 2019-2024, 14 States passed major changes to minimum wage law.
3) Fifty-three localities with higher wage than the state’s minimum wage.
