Intermediate Sugar Boiling for the Sugar Industry Course

Vertical sugar boiling vessel with gauges, pipes, and inspection windows inside a processing plant.This course is designed for the student with a basic understanding of the sugar boiling process. Each day consists of 1-1/2 hours of lecture followed by sugar boiling in our 15 gal (pilot) sugar pan.

You Should Attend If:

You have a basic understanding of the sugar boiling process, perhaps having worked on the pan floor already or previously taken our Introduction to Sugar Boiling Class. This course will provide you with a more in-depth understanding of the principles involved with boiling sugar. The hands on sugar boiling portion of the course will be focused on the A, B, C and grain strikes.

You Can Expect To:

  • Learn some background on sugar crystallization
  • Seed and grow a grain strike
  • Make a magma to grow A, B and C strikes from syrup, A molasses and B molasses.
  • Focus on the Three Boiling System.
  • Gain an advanced understanding of the sugar boiling process

Content You Can Count On:

  • An overview of sugar boiling
  • Effect of steam, vacuum, purity on sugar boiling
  • Boiling strikes on the pilot pan by yourself or as a small team (depending on class size)

Registration fee:

Registration fee for students sponsored by a Louisiana sugar factory is $1200 per person, all others $1500 per person.
