Students in Dr. Garrett Hopper’s ichthyology class (RNR 4145) teamed up with McNeese State University’s ichthyology class for a weekend field trip to Kisatchie National Forest. Students collected 26 species of fishes with backpack electrofishing and seining and were able to practice their species identification skills in the field. A total of 195 fish species have been collected from Louisiana freshwater habitats, with 31 species considered vulnerable, imperiled or critically imperiled by the state.
