Staff from the Audubon Sugar Institute participated in the 16th Congress of Sugar Technicians of Guatemala (ATAGUA), held in Antigua, Guatemala, from September 8 to 11, 2025.

Dr. Gillian Eggleston was invited as a guest speaker, with all expenses covered, reflecting international recognition of her expertise. She delivered a one‑hour plenary lecture on sucrose losses in sugarcane factories, addressing key factors affecting sugar recovery and factory efficiency. In addition, she presented a technical talk focused on dextran and fructan polysaccharides and their impact on sugar processing.

The congress brought together sugar industry professionals and researchers to discuss recent developments in the sugarcane agroindustry, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, competitiveness, and best practices in cultivation and sugar production. The event also provided a valuable forum for technical exchange and professional networking within the international sugar community.
