Advisory Leadership Councils are crucial to the development and growth of the DeSoto Parish Extension programs and the LSU AgCenter. Instead of holding our three program areas separate advisory meetings this year, we combined our three respective advisory boards to allow members the opportunity to see our how our three programs reach so many different people within the community of DeSoto Parish. These advisory leadership boards comprise local stakeholders, librarians, agriculture producers, healthcare professionals, school, 4-H youth and their parents, 4-H club and 4-H project club leaders, parish officials and concerned citizens for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Nutrition and Community Health, and 4-H Youth Development.
The latest DeSoto Parish Overall Advisory Leadership Council was held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Josh Salley, Parish Chair, began the meeting and thanked everyone for attending. LSU AgCenter staff introduced themselves and offered a brief overview of their programming areas. Mr. Josh Salley spoke about Agriculture and Natural Resources programming and needs within the parish. Mrs. Erin Stockton spoke about Nutrition and Community Health program. Mrs. Ami Altom spoke about the 4-H Youth Development program. Members were invited to share input and collaboratively identify then prioritize the top five agricultural, nutritional, and programming needs in DeSoto Parish. After thoughtful discussion and deliberation, the committee ranked the following as the top five focus areas for future educational efforts in our three programming areas:
