(01/29/20) Alexandria, La. — The LSU AgCenter will hold a spring garden seminar March 6 at the Dean Lee Research and Extension Center in Alexandria, which is located adjacent to LSUA on U.S. Highway 71.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by a program from 9 until 12:45 p.m.

The seminar will cover home gardening topics with a focus on pecans, vegetables and ornamentals, said AgCenter horticulture specialist Sara Shields.

“Our goal is to appeal to a more diverse clientele with varied interests centered on the home landscape and garden, and this event is designed to do just that,” Shields said.

Presentations will include:

• Pecan trees for homeowners by AgCenter horticulture agent Michael Polozola.

• Crape myrtle pruning and bark scale control by AgCenter agent Keith Hawkins.

• Growing tomatoes for the home garden by Master Gardener Debbie Morrison.

• Vermicomposting by Master Gardener Johnnie Hart.

• Landscaping with native plants by AgCenter consumer horticulture specialist Heather Kirk-Ballard.
