Title: Instructor and Animal Science Specialist, School of Animal Sciences
Location: Baton Rouge, LSU campus
Strategic Goal Focus: Expand the talent pipeline through youth development, ag leadership and college academic workforce development programming that returns talent to rural communities in Louisiana.Braud lives out the land-grant mission through teaching, research and extension. He teaches undergraduate animal science courses and advises the LSU Block & Bridle Club, preparing students for careers in animal agriculture. His doctoral research focuses on bovine anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease that impacts cattle health and producer profitability. By conducting a statewide producer survey, collecting blood samples across Louisiana and validating diagnostic tests, he is generating practical solutions to help producers manage this costly disease. As a statewide extension specialist, Braud also trains 4-H agents and coordinates programs such as the Beef and Sheep Educational Trip to the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE), bringing science-based knowledge directly to communities.
Braud’s work ensures that students, agents and producers alike are equipped with the skills and knowledge to strengthen Louisiana’s livestock industry. His applied research provides veterinarians and producers with reliable tools to protect herd health, while his teaching and extension programs grow the next generation of livestock professionals.
“Shaped by the 4-H livestock program, I now combine teaching, research and extension to support producers and inspire the next generation of animal scientists. My goal is to pass on the opportunities I was given, connecting people with practical knowledge and experiences that strengthen agriculture for the future.”
Louisiana’s livestock industry, led by poultry and beef cattle, had a farm value of more than $1.4 billion in 2022. Braud’s research on bovine anaplasmosis addresses a critical herd health challenge with global relevance in tropical and subtropical regions. Through teaching, he prepares students with skills that translate across the livestock industry worldwide, and through extension, he equips agents and youth to strengthen rural communities at home and beyond.
