Life Book Cover Competition

What is a Life Book? A Life Book is the record of a youth’s life in his or her own words using photos, artwork, and mementos collected along the way. These journals allow youth in foster care to document their history, celebrate accomplishments, and let their talents shine!

This contest is open to any Ascension Parish 4-H'er. The contest is to design a creative cover and assemble a blank Life Book for a foster care youth to be able to carry with them and update throughout their life. After Demo Day, Life Books will be donated to local child services for foster care youth. Only the designed cover sheet will be returned to the 4-H member.

Rules:

• Life Book Covers should be single-sided and only one entry per member.
• Entries should be assembled and submitted at Demo Day.
• A Life Book Design form should be submitted along with the book.
• This will be a design contest. Most of the points will be given for cover design. Additional points will be given for correct and complete book assembly.

Divisions:
Life Books will be judged separately in the following divisions:

• 4th-5th graders
• 6th- 8th graders
• 9th-12th graders

Life Book Materials and Assembly

• Materials- The following materials must be included as you assemble the book for the foster children:
  • 1 1/2 inch binder (with clear pocket on front cover),
  • 24 clear heavyweight sheet protectors,
  • Life Book Template pages (attached), printed single-sided (copies can be obtained from the 4-H Office if you do not have access to a printer), card stock for the cover.
  • Include 5-10 sheets of colored, heavy paper or construction paper in the back pocket
  • 1-inch spiral notebook in the front pocket.
• Assembly- To assemble the book (see instructions attached):
  • select a binder,
  • place 24 clear heavyweight sheet protectors in the binder,
  • insert printed life book template pages into the sheet protectors so that the pages appear two-sided. Continue until the entire template has been added,
  • design a creative cover sheet and insert in the clear pocket on the outside front cover of the binder,
  • place spiral notebook in the front pocket of the binder,
  • place extra colored paper in the back pocket of the binder.
